Texas Hold’em is one of the more popular versions of poker in casinos. This version is a community card poker game and involves each player being dealt two cards. There are then five community cards placed face up in the centre of the table, and from these players make the best hand they can. The community cards are revealed in three steps, the first is a deal of three, then two subsequent deals of one each. Five cards can be used to create the best value hand possible by each player using a combination of the cards in their hand and the face up community cards. As with other poker games, there are a number of strategies that can be used to improve the chances of winning and we’ll discuss some of these here.
Firstly it is important to understand that there are considered to be four main strategies in game play when it comes to poker. These are tight, loose, aggressive and passive. Each has their own distinctive style, and it is important for players aiming for the top to be able switch up between these styles.
For Texas Hold’Em most experts suggest that a tight-aggressive play is necessary. This means not playing so many hands, but raising and betting often with the hands that are played. However, this is not the only thing when it comes to strategy for Hold’em, many players also state that the position at the table is also important. For example, a player who plays near the end of the hand is in a much better position to asses all the information and is more likely to play on more hands than someone at the start of the round. More information on this can be read here.
Players should also note that there are different strategies in place depending on the way the betting is done, whether the game is a tournament or cash game. Learning how to evaluate a hand is key in Hold’em as the strategy of play will vary if the hand strength is not that great and vice versa.
